I have experience with both WordPress and Blogger blogging platforms. I have helped several non-techie friends to start their own blogs. When I received a request from the author to review this book from the perspective of an experienced blogger my goal was to see whether the book covered everything I would expect it to cover as well whether it was written in a way that it would be understood by people who are not software engineers.

Overall, I think the author has succeeded achieving both goals. The instructions are detailed, simple to understand, and written in a friendly conversation tone. She explains terminology, provides examples, and even provides a web site where she is willing to answer questions that the book has not answered.

The book covers a lot of topics from basic set up to optimization of performance. You will not need to read the book cover to cover to get started. You can gradually improve your site by learning additional chapters. I really liked the cheat sheet at the end of the book “A website in 10 minutes” – it is always rewarding to get something working fast and then come back and tune various things as you learn more and more.

If there was one thing that I would have liked to see in the book which is not there is the comparison of WordPress to Blogger pointing how they are different and why someone might choose one over the other.

Overall, if you want to become a WordPress expert this is a great place to start.

Good read, came away with a much better understanding of WordPress. Followed along using WordPress on a local server so I did not read most of step 1. Perhaps a link to a tutorial to help novices set up local server would be nice… just a thought. All in all, an absolute bargain for $2 kindle edition. Keep up the good work!

I wanted to learn about making a WordPress website. I have extensive knowledge and experience building websites, but none whatsoever with WordPress. This book is geared toward those who have never made any type of website before, and as such, it was super easy to learn and follow.

If you have never purchased a domain name this will tell you all about how to do that.
If you have never purchased hosting for a website before, this explains all about it and makes a couple of recommendations for a hosting service.
This explains the C-panel some hosting services use, and explains Fantastico, a feature of the C-panel that allows you to install things automatically on your site with the press of a button, WordPress being one of them.
This explains what a WordPress Theme is, and where to get them.
This explains what plug-ins are and how to use them.

I didn’t know this book was so basic so for me, half an hour with it was all I needed. This not only tells you how to use Fantastico to install wordpress, it also tells you how to manually install it for better site security.

This is for beginners to making any type of website, and for those this is a wonderful book. It is super easy to read and gives step by step instructions on everything you need to know and do to get your WordPress site on the internet. It will walk you through making your first site in an hour or two at the most. Of course this is a basic no frills site, but that’s what a first site will be for anyone.

I was hoping for some more advanced instructions than this and that is no fault of this book. I simply didn’t realize it was so basic. I will certainly put a few things in this book to use. For anyone who is brand new to making their first website, this is the book to get. Nothing could make the process any easier than this does.
